florida part one

well i'm here! i made it to gainesville. my mom dropped me off at the airport this morning at five, tears were shed, and off i went. i stopped at caribou coffee, who will never be starbucks, and got a not-so-delicious iced coffee. i curled up in the comfy airport chairs in my blanket and read a bit.

i boarded the plane and sat in my super fantastic middle seat, and read under the dome, which is amazing. the flight was uneventful. no screaming, no crashing, not even a spilled drink or an angry passenger. which i suppose is good, though ben said if i died in a fiery plane crash that he'd get my name tattooed on his bum. not that i want to die, haha, but that would amuse me. although it'd be dead me...

we got to charlotte unscathed and i half sprinted down the the gate to catch my connecting flight, and almost ran over a lady who couldn't walk in her heels on the moving walkway (what is the technical term for these?). then i look over and see the tiniest plane. that i'd be getting on in ten minutes. we were packed in there like sardines, and it was a pretty bumpy flight. we had an hour delay due to a broken part in the bathroom, but luckily they just closed it and we were on our merry way. i slept through the whole delay, the person i shared a seat with was a no-show. or non-existent. my mind actually tricked me for a little and i legitimately thought i was riding in a semi for a while, the feeling was so similar. then we leveled out and i always think we're falling out of the sky so i realized where i was.

we landed in gainesville without trouble, and i realized just how much stickier it is down here than in virginia. you floridians can have your humidity. 

i'm put up in a nice hotel, it's in a good location. my roommate is pretty awesome. i walked next door to the cracker barrel and carbed up for the day. now i'm waiting for my taxi to the shelter, so i figured i'd blog a bit beforehand.

so my first day was full of travelling fun, no deaths, so i consider that a success. a bore, really.
